He could hear them, the voices; they haunted him day and night, night and day.
His entire life was based on what they told him, yet he never really listened.
He was beyond caring, beyond wondering, beyond hope, and beyond life. They

know. They didn’t understand. He was sure of that. Continue reading “Completion of Souls” »

Japan is a country of authentic art. It is a place where manga, the comic book, turns into a huge anime series and even full-length animation movies that incorporate original story. Years go by but the interest to the series never fades away and it becomes the classic of Japanese animation industry with all of its innovations and huge popularity in the Western world. This is all about Sailor Moon, iconic piece of anime that lives through the decades.
The anime dates back as far as 1992. It is worth mentioning that it took only one month to release the first episode after the first issue of manga was out! The risk paid off and Sailor Moon has become what we are all used to. The production was taken care of by three companies. Sailor Moon is the first Mahou shoujo where there is a group of characters with supernatural abilities instead of just one girl like it was before. The anime itself became a total hit and set the beginning of a hugely profitable and popular merchandising campaign. Anime was dubbed or translated into multiple languages and was quick to conquer the Western world.
The protagonist is a young girl who meets a talking cat. Turns out, the girl has an alter ego which makes her a Sailor Warrior, space warrior that is the protector of everything that is left good. She needs to fight the Dark Kingdom and their evil forces before they conquer the world. She is not alone, however. Other girls are also being shown their powerful alter egos, which transform them into the princesses, each for the planet in the Solar System eg Sailor Uranus and so on. They join Sailor Moon in her quest to defend the known world and the remnants of a once powerful kingdom that was reigning all over Solar system. 200 episodes of anime are split between 5 different story arcs, each about 40 episodes of length. These are roughly based on manga and have the same characters as the paper version. The characters fight for the universe and we are only left to watch and cheer for our heroes. And that is the best part about this anime.
Of course, the success of Sailor Moon is not only explained by an excellent story, but also by a number of other factors. Top-notch visuals portray brilliantly everything that the world of Sailor Moon has to offer and improve over time as the technology progresses. The anime shows everything that Japanese animation was capable of at the time and does not disappoint at all.
Music is what rounds everything up and makes the series brilliant. Takanori Arisawa is the one to say ‘thank you’ to as he is the composer of the score for the series. He won various awards for his work and received a huge amount of royalties because his music was as great as the anime.
As mentioned above, Sailor Moon was quick to win the accolades for the best anime at that time. The number of fans was increasing progressively with each new episode and soon enough the show became so huge that it was sold worldwide. You guessed it, it became a major thing everywhere. Special episodes, exclusive features, and full-length movies indicate that it became as huge as it can. Years passed and now it is a legendary piece of animation. We look back at it and enjoy the wonderful moments of old-school anime, realizing that this is what has set the start for such popularity of anime in our civilization.
It became so huge that we always wanted more and didn’t even need the original creators for it. Fan fiction breathes new life into Sailor Moon and her fellow warriors and keeps the popularity on top. We love iconic stuff, don’t we?
I Am Sailor Thoth
I had just left Sarah Maurer (a girl I walk home with) at her house, and was sketching out plots for Star Trek fanfics in the air, while simultaneously trying not to faint from the heat and the weight of my backpack. We had been having a heat wave, and the school doesn’t have air conditioning. Continue reading “I Am Sailor Thoth” »
